Turning the Map Green: A Conversation about Conservation in Loudoun

Sunday, March 24, 2019, 11:30 PM

Join PEC and the Catoctin Creek Fund Advisory Committed for an afternoon in which we'll discuss challenges, successes, and opportunities in land use and conservation in Loudoun County. Hear from members of the Catoctin Creek Fund Advisory Committee, who will talk about the connection of conservation and agriculture, and about a source of funding that helps landowners protect their properties with a conservation easement.  Afterwards, celebrate rural Loudoun with bluegrass music by Furnace Mountain, light fare from Mom's Apple Pie, and local beer and wine. Catoctin Creek is a designated Virginia Scenic River thanks to its outstanding scenic, recreational, historic, & natural characteristics. Its watershed consists of 59,175 acres . Only 9,590 of those acres are protected (16%). There is much work to be done in Virginia’s fastest growing county. In 2017, the Catoctin Creek Conservation Fund was created as an advisory committee for PEC to further conservation success in the Catoctin Creek watershed by: Educating landowners about options to conserve their land Providing cost assistance for conservation easement Promoting land & water-friendly best management practices Promoting agriculture and rural land use The evening will include a few short remarks including: An introduction to the Catoctin Creek Conservation Fund's history, goals, and work - Eleanor Adams, co-founder of the Fund Agriculture in the watershed, then and now - Chip Planck, longtime farmer in Loudoun Potential solutions to protecting the watershed - Tracy Lind, PEC field representative Please RSVP by March 18, 2019. Dress is casual. Questions? Contact Tracy Lind at tlind@pecva.org or 540-347-2334 ext. 7066. Can't attend the event but would still like to support the fund?
