Holy Saturday Silent Meditation Retreat
Holy Saturday Silent Meditation RetreatSaturday, April 209 a.m. to 3 p.m.Facilitated by Stacey Guenther In preparation for Easter, we will spend the day in noble silence, meditating and creating a space to be still and listen. Our day will be spent alternating between sitting and walking meditation. Only a small fraction of meditation practices will be guided. About the Facilitator: Stacey Guenther is a coach and consultant focusing on well-being, positive lifestyle, and living fully and whole-ly. She is a Duke-trained Integrative Health Coach, teaches meditation and mindfulness at George Mason University, and holds a master’s degree in organization development. She is long-time meditator, focused primarily on Buddhist meditation practices, and has trained with Jonathan Foust, Trisha Stotler, Jon Kabat-Zinn, Sharon Salzberg, and Adyashanti. This event has free registration. Donations will be accepted at the event WHEN: Holy Saturday, April 20 - 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Arrive NO LATER THAN 8:45AM to settle in We are usually pretty flexible on arrivals at Unity. Because of the nature of this retreat, anyone who arrives after 9:15 will be asked to wait until there is a break when it will be possible for them to enter without disrupting others. WHAT TO WEAR: Dress comfortably in clothes that you can easily move in – yoga or sweat pants, t-shirt, sweatshirt, socks. Dress in and bring layers that you can easily put on and take off. Please wear clothes without writing, sayings, and large logos and that don’t make a lot of noise when you move. BRING: Cushion for sitting if you’d like Yoga mat or towel to lie on Blanket or two Comfort items – back jacks, pillows, additional cushions, etc. Socks Slip on/slip off shoes Water Lunch DON’T BRING: Cell phone or any electronics. Leave your phone either in your car or at home. Purses/wallets. Again, leave them in your car or at home. Valuables of any kind. Anything that makes noise (i.e. a watch that beeps) FOOD AND DRINK: BRING LUNCH! You will be encouraged not to leave the campus – to include going to the farmer’s market – once we enter silence. This is to support your experience. Please bring lunch and water and any other snacks, medicine, etc. you’ll need during the day. Some healthy snacks will be provided. Please consider bringing a healthy snack to share. WHAT WE’LL BE DOING: We will spend our six hours together in Noble Silence, which means that we agree not to speak, and we also avoid eye contact, do not read, write, and do not interact with electronics. When we eat lunch, we’ll do it mindfully and in silence. During our 6 hours together, we will sit in meditation, and do walking meditation. Only a small fraction of the meditation practices will be guided. POST RETREAT: Try to plan on gently re-entering the speaking world. We will transition at the end of the retreat, and I would recommend that you plan on an evening that is as low-stress as possible and perhaps limited in your human interactions. Be mindful of your own transition, and savor the peace.
