Equity Crowdfunding under Reg CF - What You Need to Know
Maureen L. Murat and Paul H. There will be time for questions during and after the presentation. About the speakers: Paul H. Jossey is an attorney and entrepreneur in the DC metro area. He runs a law firm, Jossey PLLC, that specializes in business capitalization and compliance. Specifically, Jossey PLLC works with small businesses and startups to help them capitalize through equity crowdfunding, a new concept that was part of the JOBS Act of 2012, whose last title only went live in 2016. Title III of the JOBS Act, Reg CF, allows small businesses and startups to raise up to $1.07M from both accredited and unaccredited investors. This allows businesses an alternative to traditional venture capital funding and/or negotiation leverage. Currently, Jossey PLLC represents a cybersecurity startup that is about to close a successful raise on WeFunder, the nation’s largest equity crowdfunding portal and has two more set to launch in the coming months. He has also worked with tech startups in the Midwest and West Coast. Jossey PLLC also runs thecrowdfundinglawyers.com, a website with commentary on technology and crowdfunding news. It receives thousands of views per month. Maureen L. Murat is an attorney at Cogent Law Group LLP, a law firm dedicated to helping clients meet their business objectives. Her practice focuses on corporate matters, cryptocurrency regulation compliance, securities which includes financing via equity crowdfunding. She has experience in advising startups on equity crowdfunding strategies and other compliance issues related to raising funds to grow a business. Maureen is principal of Crowdie Advisors, LLC, a business consulting firm dedicated to helping local and foreign entrepreneurs and small businesses form business entities and transact business (strategy, planning and problem-solving) . She is also partner at Axes and Eggs, a blockchain think tank and digital advisory firm that focuses on blockchain consulting, education courses for executives and digital advisory services. Mostly recently, Maureen joined the University of New Hampshire School of Law as an Adjunct Professor in its Blockchain and the Law Certificate Program, and teaches Tokenomics & Cryptocurrency Regulations and Smart Cities: Blockchain, Government and the Law.
