Developing Independence in Teens and Children with ADHD
Next in our "Understanding ADHD" Lecture Series is Developing Independence in Teens and Children with ADHD, presented by Susan Biggs, Director of the Learning Center, Flint Hill School in Oakton, Virginia. Due to difficulties with executive functioning, impulsivity, and inattention, children and teens with ADHD often struggle to be self-sufficient and resilient. They often lag behind their same-age peers in their ability to make plans, make good decisions, and follow through on responsibilities. Based on the work of Julie Lythcott-Haims, author of How to Raise an Adult, this presentation will focus on skills children need to develop in order to be independent, and how parents can guide and support them as they mature.
